Description :
In the beginning, the history of the parish of Saint-Hilaire was closely linked to the parish of Sainte-Luce, Maine, located at the same height but on the south shore of the St. John River.
Knowing that sooner or later, the Saint-Luce Parish would belong to the Diocese of Portland because of the Webster-Ashburton treaty, bishop Chatham founded a new parish with the canadian part. He named it after Hilaire Cyr, who gave 10 acres of land for the construction of the church, the cimetery and the rectory.
