With a population of just 547 — 198 live on the reserve — the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation is home to multiple million-dollar businesses, and almost everyone who can work has a job.
Being a maliseet community, efforts are put forth to maintain the native language by teaching the youth. Currently the on reserve population is mostly french, although most people are bilingual speaking english as well.
